Congratulations to the new PhD graduates Jakub Hoskovec and Michal Syrový
On 1 July 2026, two doctoral dissertations were successfully defended at the Centre for Nanomaterials and Biotechnology (CENAB). The candidates of the doctoral study programme Applied Nanotechnologies, Mgr. Jakub Hoskovec and Mgr. Michal Syrový, thus successfully completed their PhD studies.
Both dissertations were supervised by Prof. RNDr. Pavla Čapková, DrSc., and focused on the development of advanced nanofibrous systems for the capture of carbon dioxide (CO₂) and hydrogen (H₂). The aim of the research was to enhance the sorption properties of these materials and to contribute to more efficient gas capture technologies in line with current environmental requirements and the development of low-emission technologies.
In his dissertation, Jakub Hoskovec focused on the modification of polyurethane (PUR) nanofibres using amine compounds (TETA, TEPA), palladium nanoparticles (Pd), and ZIF-8-type structures. The results of his work were published in three peer-reviewed scientific journals and also led to the development of two functional samples and one patent.
Michal Syrový focused in his dissertation on the modification of nanofibrous systems based on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and cellulose acetate. These materials were functionalised with amine groups or used as a basis for the preparation of nanocomposites incorporating MOF-type structures and zeolites. His research resulted in a total of five publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, one of which is currently under review, and one functional sample.
Both dissertations represent a significant contribution to the development of modern hybrid sorbents for environmental applications. By successfully defending their work, Jakub Hoskovec and Michal Syrový completed their doctoral studies and were awarded the PhD degree.
